Stiffness - day nine
->
Exercises to relax your arms
In our day to day life we use our four limbs to the maximum. The legs tend to have gross movements and the arms and hands move in more skilful ways such as typing, writing etc. With time the fingers and hands tend to get stiff from such repetitive movement. These simple exercises should be practised regularly so that your arms and hands feel supple and relaxed.
Exercise 1

Exercise 1
• Sit with the legs stretched out, the back straight. Bend one leg; place the ankle on the opposite thigh close to the groin. Bend the other leg and place the ankle on the thigh of the bent leg, close to the groin
• Interlock your fingers at the chest level, the palms facing towards you, the elbows at the same level
• Inhale deeply as you turn the palms out and slowly stretch your arms out in front
• Exhale through the mouth as you turn the palms in and slowly bring the palms back to start position
• Repeat five times.
Exercise 2

• Sit as described in exercise one
• Bend one arm behind the head
• Catch the wrist with the other hand and pull down stretching the elbow and shoulder
• Hold on to the posture for 10 - 25 seconds
• Release
• Repeat with the other arm.
Exercise 3

Exercise 3
• Sit with the legs stretched out in front, the feet together, the body relaxed
• Stretch both arms in front of you to shoulder level
• Keeping the arms straight, slowly stretch both hands down from the wrist so that the fingers point to the floor. Simultaneously, move the toes forward and stretch the feet
• Now, slowly stretch both hands up backward from the wrist. Simultaneously stretch the toes and feet up and towards the body
• Repeat 10 times.
